日本人の色彩観・美意識の象徴の一つである藍染の世界を探求し、第一線で活躍を続ける福本潮子。

福本は "私の理想の空間意識"を求める独自の美学によって、藍染の伝統に現代感覚との革新的な一体化をもたらしました。素材がコンセプト、基調色はブルー。藍に染め抜かれてさらに際立つ布地の白。そして空間に透き通るブルーグラデーション。福本潮子の藍は科学では捉えきれない時空間と美を留め、見る者の本能的な自然感覚を呼び覚まします。その類稀なる藍の美で、『第13回国際タピスリー・ビエンナーレ』（ローザンヌ州立美術館、1987年）を皮切りに、福本は世界のコンテンポラリーの藍染作家の第一人者として常に国内外で高い評価を得るとともに、日本の"工芸 KOGEI"の国際的評価を大きく牽引してきました。

Having continued to explore the world of indigo, which is one of the symbols of the Japanese color senses and aesthetics, Fukumoto Shihoko is the dye artist who has been successful at the forefront. The book includes representative works from every series of work produced by Fukumoto's hands from 1977 to 2015 including the newest pieces.

Fukumoto brought innovative integration of the tradition of indigo dyeing and modern sensitivity by her own aesthetics pursuing 'my ideal spatial consciousness.' Material is the concept. Blue is the base color. White of the fabric is pronounced even more by being dyed with indigo. And blue gradation envelops the space. Fukumoto Sihoko's indigo ties time-space and beauty that science cannot grasps and awakens viewer's intuitive sense. With her extraordinary sense of beauty in indigo, Fukumoto participated the 13th International Biennale of Tapestry (Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts de Lausanne, 1987) as a start, became the leading figure among the contemporary indigo artists and headed international acclaim of the Japanese KOGEI.
This will be a retrospective book covering the history of Fukumoto Shihoko as an artist.

福本潮子｜Fukumoto Shihoko

1945年生まれ。京都市立美術大学（現京都市立芸術大学）洋画科卒。卒業後、日本の伝統文化を学ぶため龍村美術織物に勤め二代目龍村平蔵に師事、植物染等を学ぶ。この時をきっかけに作品を藍染めで制作。日展系に10年所属後退会。以後フリーで国内外の個展や企画展で発表を続ける。また、作品制作と平行して、きもの帯の制作も手がける。高島屋美術画廊、アートコートギャラリー、辰野美術館、豊科近代美術館、山口県立美術館・浦上記念館、ワールドミュージアム ロッテルダム（ロッテルダム）、ロスカミュージアム（イエテボリ）等、国内外で個展・グループ展多数。
主なパブリックコレクションには、国立国際美術館（大阪）、東京国立近代美術館（東京）、京都国立近代美術館 （京都）、金沢21世紀美術館（金沢）、The Victoria ＆ Albert Museum（ロンドン）、Museum for Arts and Design (ニューヨーク)等がある。

Born in 1945 in Osaka. Current activities in Kyoto. Guraduated from B.F.A., Painting, Kyoto City University of Arts. After graduating, she entered the world of textiles where she gained a chance to work under Tatsumura Heizo II of Tatsumura Textile Co., Ltd. in Kyoto's traditional textile district of Nishijin.
