軽やかな彫刻が、私たちの存在を問いかける。

今村源は、針金や樹脂などおよそ彫刻らしからぬ素材、あるいは、椅子や机、冷蔵庫などの身近な日用品に、驚くほど繊細な手わざを加え、浮遊感溢れる彫刻を作ってきた美術家です。今村はまた、森の地下に菌糸を張り巡らし、ときおり地上に姿を顕すキノコの世界に、深い関心を寄せてきました。私たちには見えない世界で、しかし確実に世界と共生し、世界を支えているキノコ。その在り方に、個としての私を超えて、連綿と続く生命の営みにまで思いを馳せるような作品集です。

　今村とキノコというモチーフとの出会いも語られる菌類学者・小川眞氏との対談「キノコの教え」や、京都市立芸術大学学長・建畠晢氏のテキスト「今村源の笑いとエレガンス」なども収録。また、2013年8月6日～10月27日に開催の静岡市美術館shizubi project 3「わた死としてのキノコ　今村源」展のインスタレーション風景に加え、1988～2013年主要な展示の記録写真を収録し、作家の創作の軌跡をたどれる充実の一冊です。

静岡市美術館のロビーに緩やかに浮遊する菌糸のインスタレーションもさまざまなオブジェ群も、おそらくは眠っているように見えて、世界の振動を感受し、全方位に開かれているふくよかな植物的感覚を有した、大いなる生態系なのだ。願わくばそこに身を置く私たち観客もまた、キノコのような"わた死"の感覚を瞬時でも体感しうることを......。　―――――建畠晢（京都市立芸術大学学長）「今村源の笑いとエレガンス」

　「わた死としてのキノコ」－　今村は、キノコの姿にそんな思いを馳せる。
　一方で現代に生きる美術家として、どうしようもなく「私」であることから逃れられないことに自覚的な今村にとって、そのような思索は、合わせ鏡を覗き込むような「私」の毒を中和してくれる。大いなる生命の流れのなかに溶解していく「私」。されどその流れはいちいちの、生命の結ばれとしての個体の途切れることのない連なりで出来ていて、キノコのようにある一瞬、個として「私」を主張する。　―――――以倉新（静岡市美術館 学芸主任）「今村 源　軽やかな彫刻とは何か」

The hyphae installation floating easily in the lobby and the various other objects in the museum may also look as if they are sleeping, but they are actually a large ecosystem with robust vegetal sensations, open to every direction and picking up vibrations from the world. Dissolving My Self Like a Mushroom - as this title suggests, Imamura was inspired by the world of mushrooms.

At the same time, realizing that it is impossible for an artist living in the present day to completely escape the self, Imamura used this type of thinking to counteract a kind of poisonous self that is similar to looking into a coupled mirror. The self dissolves into a large flow of life. Yet, this flow is made up of an uninterrupted series of individual bodies as nodes, and at a certain moment, something like a mushroom accentuates its self as an individual.　-----Arata Ikura［chief curator, Shizuoka City Museum of Art］ 'Imamura Hajime: What is Light Sculpture?'
