2014年8月、ダーシュ（イスラム国）に攻撃され、美しい故郷を失った民族、ヤズディ。
ひとりひとりの存在に寄り添い、その祈りと願いをあらわすフォトストーリー。
シリアとイラクの国境にほど近いシンガル山に、独自の宗教と文化を継承してきた民族、ヤズディ。
2014年8月3日、イスラム国がその村々を攻撃した瞬間から、彼らの苦難は始まる。山中に逃げ込み、暑さと空腹で衰弱する子どもたち。イスラム国戦闘員に捕らえられ「結婚」させられる女性たち。集団殺害された男性たち。
林典子の写真は、故郷を後にした彼らの「落とし物」に目を凝らし、難民キャンプやシンガル山での日々の暮らしを静かに照らし出す(時には数ヶ月も彼らと生活を共にして)。
難民としてヨーロッパやアメリカを目指すヤズディもいる。コミュニティが存在するドイツへと渡った彼らひとりひとりのポートレートと、はるばると携えてきた大切なもの。
道はここにも続き、脈々と心に在りつづける故郷の面影を写し出す。
出来事を報道的に説明する写真は一枚もない。しかし一枚一枚を積み重ねるように撮られた写真と約60ページにわたる言葉は切実に語りかける───私たちが見るヤズディの悲劇と苦難は他人事だろうか。ひとりひとりの声と存在に目を凝らす一冊。
「それからの約2週間、私たちは腕を縛られながら殴られ続け、地下室に閉じ込められたまま、食事も水もほとんど与えられずに死にそうになりました。トイレ には1日1回だけ行く機会を与えられました。ここで私は一本の針を見つけました。針を手に取ると 腕に 『お父さん、お母さん、愛している』と、もう会うことができないかもしれない両親のことを想いながら、アラビア語でこう彫りました」(サラ / 文中より)
The Prayer of the Yazidis
The mountains are bathed by beautiful blue moon light. Right before dawn, the women living on the foot of the mountain start making bread into an earthen oven for breakfast. When the sun rises, the inhabitants pray facing the sun. Here in northwestern Iraq, the Shingar mountains, with an elevation of 1,463 meters (4,800 ft.) spread east to west, and affluent human life takes its course in harmony with nature. The people living in the Shingal mountains and surrounding villages are called "Yazidi". They have been living here protecting their own peculiar religion and traditions, which were passed down from generation to generation.
On 3 August 2014, Daesh (Islamic State) started attacking Yazidi villages and towns in Shingal. Since then, it is believed that Daesh has murdered about 5,000 and abducted a further 6,000 Yazidis. Women are subjected to sexual, physical and physiological violence. Their peaceful life was suddenly taken away from them.
The Prayer of the Yazidis, portraits the stories of Yazidis in Iraq and Germany who fled their homeland following the siege and massacre carried by Daesh, and touches upon issues of trauma, identity and collective memory. It is a compilation of photographs and personal testimonies written in Japanese, English, German and Kurdish languages.

林典子 | noriko hayashi1983 年生まれ。大学在学中に、西アフリカ・ガンビアの地元新聞社、ザ・ポイント紙で写真を撮りはじめる。
「ニュースにならない人々の物語」を国内外で取材。米ワシントン・ポスト紙、独デア・シュピーゲル誌、仏ル・モンド紙、デイズ・ジャパン誌、米ニューズウィーク、マリ・クレール誌(英国版、ロシア版)など、数々のメディアで作品を発表。著書に、『フォト・ドキュメンタリー 人間の尊厳 ̶̶ いま、この世界の片隅で』(岩波書店)、『キルギスの誘拐結婚』(日経ナショナル ジオグラフィック社)

Noriko Hayashi (born 1983) is a Japanese photojournalist whose work focuses on social, gender and human rights issues. Noriko began taking pictures for a local newspaper in Gambia, West Africa, when she was still an undergraduate student in International Relations and Peace & Conflict Studies. Her photo stories have been recognized with awards including the 1st prize of NPPA Best of Photojournalism in Contemporary Issue Stories, the Visa d'Or Feature Award at the Visa Pour l'Image in France, the 1st Prize of DAYS JAPAN International Photojournalism Award and others and participated in the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass.
Noriko published her fist photography book "Unholy Matrimony" by National Geographic Japan in 2013.
She is represented by Panos Pictures.
